The birth of Addilyn Joy Bernd

Addilyn Joy Bernd was born on Tuesday, September 16th at 4:02pm. She weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces and was 20 inches.

Maggie's water broke at 5:20am, and Jeff and Maggie were at the Hospital (Kaiser in Woodland Hills) by 7:00am. On the way to the hospital, Maggie began feeling cramps, but active labor didn't begin until she got settled in the hospital. About 10am, the mid-wife noted that Maggie was 3-4 centimeters dilated and completely effaced.

Jeff and Maggie spent the next 5 hours walking laps around the 3rd floor of the hospital as Maggie endured contractions ~1 min in length every 2 - 3 minutes. The pain was excruciating, but Maggie was a trooper and Jeff helped coach Maggie through the contractions.

At 1pm, the anesthesiologist arrived and placed the epidural. What a relief! Maggie was able to relax and rest before delivery. At 3pm, the midwife checked again and Maggie was completely dilated at 10 centimeters so they moved her over to the delivery room.

Maggie pushed through three contractions and 10 minutes later, little Addilyn was born! Praise God.
